Fury v Joshua double header fight could generate up to £500 million

- By GRAHAM BEAN

They are being billed as the biggest fights in British boxing history and it is estimated that two contests between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua could generate between £300 and £500 million.

Joshua’ s win over Ku brat Pu le von Saturday night cleared the way for the superfights to happen and talks will centre on a two-fight package.

Fury’s promoter Frank Warren says the only thing that could prevent an all-british heavyweight showdown are “egos”.

Joshua, 31, retained his WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO belts with his ninth-round knock out of Pulev at Wembley Arena.

Fury, 32, has held the WBC, The Ring magazine and lineal titles since defeating Deontay Wilder in February 2020

“If it does happen, it will be a two-fight package and could generate between £300500m, depending where and when it takes place,” said Warren.

“All the parties have to park their egos up.”

Joshua’ s promoter Eddie Hearn is confident that talks could take just“a couple of days” to complete a deal between the boxers, with the two fighters to get an equal share from the first bout and the winner to get a 60-40 split from fight two.

Speaking on BBC Radio4' s Today programme, Warren said :“I’ m quite sure it will happen.

“The fighters want it to happen, and it's our job - being the promoters and managers - to make sure it does happen.”

Only 1000 fans were able to watch Joshua’s win at Wembley due to Covid restrictions and any potential fight with Fury might have to take place abroad if significant numbers of spectators are not allowed,

“I’d love it to be in the UK, but at the moment there' s no chance of that happening, until probably next June because of the Covid restrictions,” added Warren. “Other than that, it'd be taking it abroad somewhere, where they'd put up a huge site fee.”

The signs point towards the first fight being hosted in the Middle East. Joshua fought Andy Ruiz Jr in Saudi Arabia last year and the gulf state is a potential venue for the fight with Fury.

Fur y said earlier this week that it would be" one of the most explosive, quickest fights we will ever see" and was "optimistic" it would happen.

"I am aiming to take him out inside four rounds," said Fury.

"He is standing in my way of total supremacy in my era. Immortality awaits. I am one win away from it."

There are several potential issues to overcome first, including the opponents-inwaiting for each fighter.

However, with both promoters, plus the two key men involved, eager to get this fight arranged, it appears only a matter of time before a deal is reached. Fur y may be forced to meet De on tay Wilder for a third time, while Joshua could be told by the WBO to face mandatory challenger Oleksandr Usyk.

A TV deal will have to be struck and there are some complications, with Sky having an exclusive deal with Joshua, while Fury has similar terms with ESPN. Both fighters also have matching deals with DAZ Nand BT respectively.
