Home workers who 'built up savings' must go on a spending spree when pandemic ends to bolster the economy, Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak said in an interview .

@04Nbod wrote: “Tax the wealthy, give it to the poorer, watch them boost the economy real quick.”

@thefabledaeso tweeted: “And then if they lose their jobs they won't have enough to fall back on? Rishi Sunak is a fool.”

@Mikethelefty added: “Not the billionaires that have profiteered and made vast amounts from this then? No, it's the people who are struggling,as ever, who foot the bill."

@njm09 replied: “I've built up like 2-3 grand in savings which is enough to insulate me against losing my job for maybe one or two months rather than being just a pay cheque away.”

@Descrappycat added: “Or maybe tax A mazon appropriately since we’ve had to shop with them? Or ask all those Tory donors with their offshore bank accounts to pay the correct amount of tax? I pay tax as a responsible citizen. Time to start praising the wealthy who do and shaming those who don’t.” @LBACSIMON wrote: “No. Just recouping my real time pay cuts in the last 15 years.” @Jimcognito26 tweeted: “Hey, Mr Multi-millionaire, maybe don’t tell people who’ve had the worst year of their lives how to spend their own money.”

#BARNARDCASTLE

UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock criticised people who travelled out of London after Saturday night’s news of the five-day Christmas relaxation cancellation night for “irresponsible behaviour ”.

@Paulbernaluk wrote: “Trying to remember when Matt Hancock castigated Dominic Cummings for Barnard Castle. Or Jenrick for his travels during lockdown. Or Stanley Johnson.”

@Haggis_uk wrote: “Yet again, one rule for them & another for us.”

@llechicelt added: “There is no doubt in my mind that the day adherence to lockdown ended was the day that the Dominic Cummings Barnard Castle debacle became public.”

@Ayyessco wrote: “Breaking: UK Gov announces new Tier 0 – only for Barnard Castle, though.”

@Elizmazon waxed lyrical: “This year, to save me from tiers, I'm going to Barnard Castle.”
