Covid Christmas

-

The news came on Saturday night that the five-day Christmas Covid relaxation period has been cut to one day, with a Tier 4 lockdown to begin on Boxing Day. Readers had their say…

If the risks are as severe as the First Minister suggested, then definitely time to flee abroad for a while.

Daniel Masters

It’s all lockdown there too. I think in Italy you’re only allowed out once a day.

Margaret Heinsar

Where are you going to go, don’t you know what pandemic means?

Frederick Robertson

And it’s illegal to travel out of your local authority. If you did you’d be breaking the law!

Marc Swan

Have you listened to the news tonight? Where would you flee to? Lockdowns all over Europe are starting.

Margaret Thompson

Listen to yourself, where are you going to go, the moon? I stay in Turkey and we are in lockdown Monday to Friday. We can only go out from 10am-1 pm. Weekends, not allowed out.

Bill Logie What part of ‘we’re living through a pandemic’ do people not understand? There’s a vaccine and all we have to do for a few more months is to follow the very sound advice given to us and stay safe. I’m lucky, I haven’t lost any family members to this horrific virus and my heart aches for those who are facing Christmas without a loved one.

Veronica Harris The First Minister is criminalising people for visiting family over Christmas and you want to defend her? I live on my own and was supposed to be working Christmas Day so was heading to the folks on Boxing Day and now I don’t know what is going to

Jamie Solley

I will defend her right to protect my families lives. What kind of bird brain thinks there's an amnesty from a pandemic?

Danny Hutton

How many lockdowns have we had since March 2020 and it has no impact we need a different direction we could have a revolving door situation for years to come.

William Hazel

It has had an impact, William, otherwise there would be an awful lot more people dead

Francis Rigley It hasn’t eradicated it but lockdowns were not supposed to. They are designed to restrict the influx of patients to the NHS.

Dave Russell This is not nonsense. I lost my dad to Covid and I certainly don’t want to go through the trauma of losing another loved one.

Veronica Jeffrey Restrictions are not exclusive to here, would you rather be in Wales, who go into lockdown from midnight tonight [Saturday]. Or parts of Europe, where they are locking down again or have curfews in place and no Christmas Day relaxing at all. The limit to one day only was agreed between them all.
