Lights out for leaders Falkirk as Connell’s late strike gives visitors Airdrie victory

League 1 leaders Falkirk went down 1-0 to Airdrie yesterday in a fixture pushed back from Saturday due to a floodlight problem at the Falkirk Stadium.

The Bairns’ Robbie Leitch missed the best chance of the first half and the visiting Jason Kerr headed over a good opportunit­y just before the hour mark. The winner came eight minutes from time when Kyle Connell prodded the ball in after Robbie Mutch had saved a Paul Mckay header.

Montrose sit second after a thumping 4-0 Links Park success over Dumbarton where an Andrew Steeves header on eight minutes started the ball rolling. Before the break Cammy F Ballantyne and Russell Mclean netted with Ballantyne completed the scoring five minutes from time. Peterhead enjoyed a 1-0 win at Partick Thistle with Scott Brown firing in the winner with half an hour played.

Clyde substitute Mark Lamont struck in injury time to earn Clyde a 3-2 win at Cove Rangers. The Bully Wee led through David Good willie’ s early penalty, but Mitch Megginson’s fine brace had Cove winning before Good willie netted another spot-kick on 56 minutes. East Fife enjoyed a 2-0 home success over bottom side Forfar with Jack Hamilton firing the Fifers into the lead midway through the first half and Danny Denholm drilled into the net with an hour played to complete the win.

Queen’s Park remain unbeaten and firmly in control of top spot in League 2 after a 2-1 win at Annan.

Bob Mchugh lashed home via the bar on 58 minutes and

Craig Slater slotted in the second before Russell Currie’s injury time penalty grabbed a consolatio­n for the hosts.

Elgin enjoyed a 2-0 success over Stenhousem­uir at Borough Briggs where Kane Hester and Brian Cameron scored before the interval and the visiting Josh Grigor was dismissed late on.

Stirling Albion saw off Edinburgh City 3-2 at Ainslie Park with goals from Jack Leitch,

Declan Byrne and Andy Ryan. The Citizens hit back through Robbie McIntyre and Li am Brown.

Ruari Paton, Thomas Orr, Darryl Duffy and Cammy Elliott scored in the second half as Stranraer swept aside visitors Albion Rovers 4-0 in front of a small number of fans, while Brechin lost again, going down 2-0 to

Cow den beat hat Central Park.
