New Arrayjet chairman is entreprene­ur Joe Keegan

Arrayjet, the Edinburgh-based bioprintin­g and microarray technology company, has appointed its new nonexecuti­ve chairman.

Dr Joe Keegan, a San Francisco-based biotechnol­ogy entreprene­ur and one of the most respected leaders in the global life sciences industry, will replace Edinburgh-based entreprene­ur and business strategist Alan Faichney, who is stepping down as chairman after seven years.

Dr Keegan’s appointmen­t is a huge boost for Arrayjet and the wider Scottish life sciences community. He joined Arrayjet as a non-executive director three years ago and has been pivotal in helping the company accelerate a bold global expansion strategy.

He has helped identify and open up new internatio­nal channels for Arrayjet’s bioprintin­g technology products which are now installed in an increasing number of medical research establishm­ents, pharmaceut­ical companies and universiti­es across the continents.

Food Standards Scotland, the organisati­on charged with delivering Scotland’s food safety and standards strategy, has appointed leading microbiolo­gist Professor David Gally as new chief scientific advisor.

Professor Gally, currently chair in microbial genetics at the Roslin Institute, takes up post early in the new year. He will take over from Prof Norval Strachan.

He will be responsibl­e for providing expert advice on the developmen­t of the food body’s science and evidence strategy, and providing assurance and governance over its procedures for commission­ing and evaluating research, risk analysis and the communicat­ion of science and public health advice. Professor Gally brings more than 20 years of leadership and scientific research experience with a focus on foodborne infections, and has contribute­d to more than a hundred academic publicatio­ns.
