The Oxford/astrazeneca COVID-19 vaccine has been approved for use in the UK.

@crippsway said: “Well done to everybody involved in developing what will hopefully be the real game changer. It also demonstrates the importance of investing in science with Government money and through the stock market.”

@sam19lou asked: “This is good news if it works without risk to the patients. Have any of these vaccines been found safe when people are on medications? Have they tested to see what the interactions with other medications are. Is this one dangerous to people with allergies?”

@Gr33nw00d tweeted: “Hooray! Can us teachers get this first as we have to go back to work soon and then we can work safely and get the country up and running! Any teachers that refuse the vaccine can be placed on furlough or go unpaid.”

@Martinranes added: “Wonderful news. A huge thank you to everyone involved in achieving this breakthrough in the medical response to Covid-19. I might have a little dance of joy.”

@Leeca03 wrote: “An amazing achievement and there is hope for a new year.”

@Pierlucdupont added: “Congratulations to all the scientists and officials whose hard work lies behind this authentic game changer!”

@smokey2060 wrote: “Keep it, I would rather take my chances!”

@daveglass1 said: “As a key worker having had to battle on and take a riskier position, a sigh of relief. Let's hope this Govt doesn't balls up the roll out.”

@Birdcrime wrote: “I wonder how @Borisjohnson is going to screw this up?”

@areia51 said: “They still won't say what the non active ingredient is so that allergy sufferers can make a choice. What’s different with this vaccine to the one being rolled out now.”

@Susan_fordn replied: “This one uses conventional vaccine technology. Nothing new apart from it using Covid19 protein.”

@M1k3y said: “Anyone refusing on a register please.”

@ipcress fretted: “No assurance on safety – quite worrying.”

@LUFCNOEL replied: “Maybe the approval covers that.”

@epilepsymidwife said: “Great birthday present.”
