#CASHLESSSOCIETY
A new survey suggests that coronavirus had hastened a shift towards a cashless society. Consumer group Which? said that 34 per cent of people asked said they had been unable to pay with cash at least once since March.
@G_OLD_M said: “You’ve got the elderly staying out of circulation because of of Covid shielding and so the cashless society grabs momentum by the back door. What about tourists or basic services like the paper boy, window cleaner and milkman or paying a friend for an errand?”
@Tonykeen19 replied: “Our window cleaner accepts bank transfer and so does the local milkman. Even when I pay friends for pizza I just send money via Paypal or direct to thier bank. Cash is pontless.”
@Ceejayaitch1 posted: “Cashless impacts small retailers adversely. Fixed charges on small purchases made by card mean their profits are diminished on top of already tight margins. This can be absorbed by large retailers who have more bargaining power and economies of scale.”
@gino25thunder commented: “I’m using cash more then ever now. I think we are being pushed by the higher-ups to stop using cash.”
@bdav suggested: “Shouldn't we be pushing to get sensible alternatives (easy top-up cards maybe?) for those unable or unwilling to use cards, as opposed to trying to eek out cash for as long as possible.”
@Markrhawkins said: “Don’t see what the problem is. I hate having cash, I find it more convenient to be cashless. It’s a logical move forward.”
@norton620 said: “I withdrew cash yesterday for the first time in months and probably won’t use it all for weeks. The pandemic has accelerated #Digitaltransformation in many ways big and small.”
#MICHELINSTAR
A vegan restaurant in southwest France has been awarded a coveted Michelin star, the first of its kind in the country to receive the distinction.
@Pendletonmartin said: “It's an art to cook a steak, or a game bird, or lamb just right. What's hard about grated beetroot?”
@exiledyorkist posted: “I hope it's not too heavy for a vegan to lift.”
@ANDREWHOLBORN1 added: “See, even France is losing the plot!”
