Hello Dolly

-

It's been reported that country superstar Dolly Parton, who turned 75 on Tuesday, is looking to adopt a ten-year-old girl, sparking debate on whether someone in their 70s should take on such a role.

There are not enough people willing and able to adopt. Would it be better for the girl to live life in a series of foster homes until she ages out of the system and then has to fend for herself? I don’t think age should be a factor as long as there was a plan of care set up to ensure that the girl is not put up for adoption if Dolly passes before the girl is an adult. This is something that all parents should do anyway to ensure children are taken care of.

Tina Holden Any parent, any age, anywhere could die at any time. Fair play to Dolly. She seems to be a lovely woman, so why not give a child a good start. The child is ten, so not a baby. If dolly is still around in her 80s, the child will be an adult.

Sooz Bowie Good luck to her. The girl will be well provided for and well cared for. Too many children are in need of a loving and caring home.

Angela Russell Dolly is a great lady and she will give the kid a great start. However, she won't be around you would guess in ten years. Is that enough or better for the child than other available options?

This should be looked at from the child’s perspective. If Dolly can take care of her at this age, and provide her with all her needs, then why not.

Grandparents raise grandchildren all the time so how is this different?

John Healy

If the option is leaving the child in an orphanage or living in the home of one of the most successful and talented women in the world it seems like a no-brainer. Sure, she is old, but can you imagine what growing up with Dolly Parton would be like?

Ryan Morrison So the kid will be 30 when she's 9-5!
