Alexander delighted with win over rivals

- By SCOTSMAN REPORTER at Victoria Park

Graham Alexander was a happy man after his side came from behind to secure his first win as Motherwell boss.

Second-half goals from Devante Cole and Bevis Mugabi saw the Steelmen leapfrog Ross County in the table, after Oli Shaw had given the Staggies the lead in the 14th minute.

Alexander said: “It's an excellent night for everybody, not just myself.

“The players have taken criticism this season, and rightly so, and at half-time it wasn't looking great.

“The courage the players showed in the second half was exceptional.”

County boss John Hughes, who signed 21-year-old Blackburn goalkeeper Joe Hilton on loan until the end of the season earlier in the day, was left to rue his side’s under-par, secondhalf performance.

He said: “We conceded poor goals again. You can't have free headers in your own box.

“The last 15 minutes there was real effort to get the equaliser, but it was a little bit too late.”

On the potential signing of Motherwell's Jordan White, Hughes said: “Hopefully that will get done tomorrow.”
