Dundee loan signing upstaged by the return of Cumdog

Jason Cummings’ return to Scotland is a welcome fillip at a time when we are being denied such a large part of the fixture card due to the continued shutdown that is affecting most tiers of the game.

The Scottish Cup, lower leagues and women’s football remains suspended. The Championship has been allowed to continue and it’s there where

Cummings, pictured, will resume his career in Scotland again, at Dundee. Entertainment value is guaranteed.

The Dens Park side are doing all they can to spice up the promotion race having also recruited a new centrehalf from Spurs, the on-loan Malachi Fagan-walcott. He has already tasted a Champions League match with the London club.

While that might very well be the case, the defender still found himself rather upstaged by a player who has already inserted himself into recent Scottish football folklore – whether by describing his first senior goal for Hibs as a “decent zing, I opened up a tin of beans”, or attempting a Panenka penalty with the score still level in a Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden against Dundee United in 2016.

Then there’s the time he took on wrestler Grado in front of his Hibs team-mates in his pants with “Cumdog” written across his bare chest, while Madonna's Like A Prayer played in the background.

Off the field as well as on it, he is good value. Cummings plays football with a smile that’s as wide as the Joker grin tattooed on his right hand.

It’s likely he will start on the bench today against Raith Rovers at Stark’s Park. But no-one will be surprised if he makes an immediate impact upon leaving it, which he is bound to do at some point. It’s good to have him back.
