The Drowning
Has Channel 5 found another hit drama mini-series to rival its recent Blood and The Deceived? Find out this week as this new four-part thriller, which was filmed in and aroun Dublin, is broadcast across consecutive nights. Jill Halfpenny plays fraught mum Jodie, whose son has been missing for eight years. She has been rebuilding her life since his suspected drowning – then sees teenager Daniel (Cody Molko), becomes convinced he’s her missing child and commits to a dangerous path. Jonas Armstrong portrays Jason, Jodie’s brother, the only real support Jodie has in her life, with Rupert Penry-jones as Daniel’s father Mark, an architect who keeps a tight rein on his emotions – and his son’s life.

LIFESTYLE Interior Design Masters With Alan Carr
It isn’t just a selection of rooms receiving makeovers during the new series – it’s the show itself. Fearne Cotton was the host of the first run, but this time Alan Carr is taking charge. It will be Alan’s job to soothe furrowed brows as contestants’ nerves take hold, while design expert Michelle Ogundehin sets the challenges, joined each week by a guest judge. First up is Laurence Llewelyn-bowen, who casts an appreciative eye over the efforts of ten wannabe professional interior designers as they set about transforming showhomes in Oxford.

DOCUMENTARY Adrian Dunbar’s Coastal Ireland
Line of Duty actor Adrian Dunbar goes back to his roots in a two-part travelogue. He’s travelling along the wild and rugged west and north coasts of Ireland, making a stop at the Mizen bridge, suspended 45 metres above sea level. He also joins an old friend, who also happens to be one of Ireland’s finest chefs, for lunch, and fulfils a lifelong ambition to make the treacherous sea crossing to Skellig Islands.

DOCUMENTARY Rhod Gilbert: Stand Up To Infertility
The comedian and his wife Siân have been trying for a baby but have had difficulties. While Siân is dealing with the complications of endometriosis, Rhod was unpleasantly surprised when tests uncovered issues with his sperm. He describes them as very lazy and languid, “like their owner”. In this programme he shares the emotional turmoil, theories and misconceptions about infertility and meets others who have experienced the heartache of not being able to conceive. DOCUMENTARY Joanna Lumley’s Home Sweet Home – Travels in My Own Land
Stopped by Covid from going further afield, actress Joanna begins in Essex by exploring Tilbury docks, the principal port for London, before heading north to Manchester, where she makes a nostalgic return to Coronation Street – she appeared in eight episodes of the soap back in 1973. From there she travels to Whitby, the Yorkshire seaside town where Dracula arrives in England in Bram Stoker’s novel – she starred in Hammer movie The Satanic Rites of Dracula.
