Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer shared his vision for a 'new chapter for Britain' yesterday.
markinnorthwest tweeted: “Why? He’ll never be in power.”
tshep44 said: “Absolutely brilliant speech!”
@simontuffin said: “‘A different way of doing things’ – same old Labour policy of promising free money to everyone.”
@asteptotheleft wrote: “What was this different way of doing things? What were the policy announcements? I heard a bunch of bland words and a promise to issue some business loans. Was that it?”
@tomritchie wrote: “Possibly Starmer's finest moment since becoming leader? After a number of poor calls, and I feared the worst, but this had renewed my optimism. The call for similar changes to those of 1945 will hopefully cut through and become a rallying call for all who want a fairer society.”
#BAMECOVID
A star-filled video urging people from ethnic minority communities to get the Covid vaccine was to be shown across the UK'S main commercial TV channels last night. The film was not being shown on the BBC because the corporation's charter prevents it from taking part in campaigns.
@Lorrie_e wrote: “I am only sorry that @bbchealth are not joining in. If people fear a vaccine how on earth would they cope with #COVID19 ? I’ve had my first jab and can’t wait for the second. Together we can do this.”
@Ctwarrioroney wrote: “‘The film will not be shown on the BBC because the corporation's charter prevents it from taking part in campaigns.’ What the hell are Children in Need and Red Nose Day if not a ’campaign’?"
@paulkeeble added: “Come on! Surely a oneoff exception can be made to complete the Tv-roadblock?”
@vixmccarthy replied: “But then you’d get the anti vaxxers/ bbc licence fee haters complaining,so they can’t win.”
@Clarkycat81 wrote: “The only real way to tackle this is by getting social media to clamp down immediately on disinformation.”
@bigblakbird66 wrote: “The people that it is aimed at do not use social media. It is mainly the elders that are apprehensive."
