Rangers on course to win Premiership crown at Celtic Park

- By JOEL SKED

Rangers require just seven more points to win the Scottish Premiership title.

The 4-1 win over Dundee United at Ibrox, coupled with Celtic´s defeat to bottom of the table Ross County on Sunday evening, has pushed the Govan side even closer to securing the league trophy.

The Glasgow rivals are scheduled to face each other on March 21, the final pre-split fixture.

Before then, Rangers have an away game to Livingston and a home match with St Mirren, while Celtic face Aberdeen at home and Dundee United at Tannadice.

If both sides win their matches, Rangers would require only a draw in the derby at Parkhead to be crowned champions. Even if Steven

Gerrard’s men were to win one and draw one, they would only need a point against Celtic to confirm the league win.

There is also the possibility that Rangers will have won the league title prior to the match.

If the league leaders beat Livingston and St Mirren, coupled with Celtic dropping points against either Aberdeen and Dundee United, that would be enough for the trophy to head to Ibrox.

If that was to happen,

it would lead to talk of a guard of honour, something Celtic boss Neil Lennon has previously talked about.

In 2019, when Celtic were crowned champions, he said: “It’s a break from tradition. I think we would have done it if the shoe had been on the other foot. But it’s not a major issue.

“It would have been a touch of class if they did it. I’m disappointed they are not. Celtic would have done it.”
