Crazy curator shares her Design Storey online

Interiors author and Mad About The House blogger Kate Watson-smyth tells Sam Wylie-harris about her innovative new internet venture

-

After some 20 years of writing about interiors and sharing her passion for styling homes through her award-winning blog, Mad About The House, Kate Watson-smyth is taking her enthusiasm for sourcing desirable designs and designers to the next level. She has debuted a décor website hub that does all the hard work for anyone looking to vamp up their indoors online.

“I had the idea for Design Storey a year ago, and then the pandemic happened. And it feels even more right now, because we’ve all pivoted to online shopping, like it or not,” says Watson-smyth.

“Yet there’s so much stuff out there – my job is to wander through the corridors of the internet looking for nice stuff to put on the blog.”

The result is an online interiors store with a really tightly curated edit of 50 of the best of each product, to help consumers narrow down their search.

“So, it’s that idea of saying: ‘Do you know what, I will edit the internet for you. I will find you the best stuff, whether it’s filleting through a massive department store or sight like La Redoute, smaller brands, and hopefully bringing some new designers to your attention – and I will find you the best ones’,” Watsonsmyth explains.

Each “50 of the Best” collection hosted by Design Storey is arranged over five internet pages, with no more than ten items per page.

“You can look through five pages at the bus stop – should you ever go to a bus stop again – or while waiting for the kettle to boil,” she says.

Here, Watson-smyth shares some of her latest finds to suggest ways to style up your space…
