- By CRAIG P STEWART

Craig Wighton shrugged off the disappointment of missing an early penalty to hit the winner as Dunfermline Athletic saw off visitors Morton 1-0 to reclaim second place in the Championship table.

The on-loan Hearts forward, pictured right, saw his spotkick and subsequent rebound strike saved by Aidan Mcadams after 21 minutes with the Greenock goalkeeper redeeming himself for fouling Scott Banks.

Wighton made up for his mistake five minutes from the break when he nodded in a Dom Thomas cross to put his side ahead.

Morton, playing under Gus Macpherson for the first time, had the best chance soft he second 45 minutes, however Aid an N es bit tb lazed wide when clean through and Kalvin Orsi failed to get strength into a late header to trouble Owain Fon Williams.

Dunfermline boss Stevie Crawford said: “Craig moved on from missing the penalty quickly and like all good strikers do he kept on getting into positions to score. It was a good header and a good win for us.”

Dundee returned to the top four with a 2-0 home success over an Arbroath side that also erred from the spot.

Michael Mckenna was given the opportunity to slot the Gable Endies into the lead just after the half-hour mark after Jason Thomson had been fouled, however Adam Legzdins pushed away his effort.

The Dark Blues made the most of that reprieve by opening the scoring on 55 minutes when Danny Mullen rose to send a header past Derek Gaston with the win sealed eight minutes from time when Max Anderson’s drive was deflected past the Red Lichties goalkeeper.

Alloa also failed to convert a penalty but the bottom-placed club cared little as they saw off the nine men of Queen of the South 3-2 at Palmerston.

Dapo Mebude fired the Dumfries side ahead after 11 minutes but Innes Murray tapped in an equaliser nine minutes later.

Euan East headed the home side ahead again only for Lee Connelly to crack home a leveller for the Wasps before

Queens defender Ayo Obileye was dismissed in the final minute of the first half.

Alloa skipper Andy Graham had a penalty saved early in the second half by Rohan Ferguson but the points were destined for Clackmannanshire when Liam Buchanan’s long-range effort found the net 13 minutes from time.

Doonhamer Rhys Mccabe was dismissed five minutes from the end as he wrestled for the ball with Murray, with Queens manager Allan Johnston also sent to the stand for his protests.
