Mccracken hails Bairns’ victory over Montrose

Falkirk extended their lead in League 1 to four points with a 2-0 home win over third-placed Montrose.

A first-half goal from Mark Durnan was added to late on by Callumn Morrison with Bairns co-boss David Mccracken saying: “The longer the game went on, the stronger we got. We were determined, dogged and did the dirty side of the game well.”

Cove Rangers came from behind to draw 1-1 at Partick Thistle who missed the chance to move into the top four. Joe Cardle fired Thistle ahead with 20 minutes left but Mitch Megginson cancelled out his strike.

Jordan Brown scored midway through the second half as Peterhead beat visitors Airdrie 1-0. The Diamonds played almost the entire game a man down with Kyle Turner dismissed four minutes in.

Queen's Park continued their dominance of League 2 with a 3-0 win over Stranraer in what could be their final game at Hampden.

First-half headers from Michael Doyle and Lee Kilday were added to by a Bob Mchugh penalty with Stranraer reduced to 10 men when Kieran Millar picked up a second yellow card late on.

Spiders boss Ray Mckinnon said: “Considerin­g we haven’t played any football for nine weeks, the performanc­e was good and the attitude was excellent.”

Gary Naysmith made a dream return to management as Edinburgh City beat Elgin City 2-1 in the Highlands. Josh Campbell slotted in the opener and Robbie Mcintyre gave the Citizens a two-goal cushion after just 12 minutes. Josh Peters notched before the break for Elgin but Naysmith’s side held on.
