Lennon delighted after Cuddihy strike helps Bully Wee upset the odds at Ayr

Clyde boss Danny Lennon hailed the unexpected nature of cup football as the Bully Wee defeated Ayr United 1-0 at Somerset Park in what was their fourth game in seven days.

Barry Cuddihy stroked the ball home from Ross Cunningham’s cut-back after just four minutes as the League One side saw off the Championsh­ip outfit. “I’ve always loved the atmosphere of one-off cup games because it tends to bring the best out in players,” said Lennon, right. “It was important we brought our style to the game and I said before it that it would be vital to have a strong start. We did that.”

Morton came from behind to beat East Fife 2-1 at the Locality Hub Bayview. The Fifers opened the scoring on 59 minutes when Liam Newton pulled the ball back for Kevin Smith to tap in from close range.

Morton were awarded a controvers­ial penalty at the death when the ball struck Ross Davidson’s hand with Sean Mcginty netting from the spot to force extra time. Robbie Muirhead was the match winner eight minutes from the end when his deflected effort flew into the top corner.

Super subs Matt Yates and Thomas Orr turned the tide for Stranraer as they came from behind to beat hosts Brora Rangers 3-1 after extra time.

Dale Gillespie’s early penalty put the Dudgeon Park side ahead and they held out until James Hilton equalised two minutes from the end directly from a corner. Yates put the visitors ahead 10 minutes into extra time before Orr sealed the win when he lashed in a half volley from 25 yards.

Forfar progressed to the fourth round thanks to a 5-3 penalty shootout win against Edinburgh City following a 2-2 draw after extra time. Ouzy See gave the Citizens the lead in the sixth minute but Jordan Allan levelled for the Loons before Lee hamilton’ s acrobatic effort put City ahead again before the break. Forfar forced the extra 30 minutes in injury time when Roberto Nditi finished neatly.

The Loons went down to ten men in extra time when Hamish Thomson was shown a straight red card for a foul on Josh Campbell, however Daniel Hoban was the hero in the shootout when he saved

Montrose survived a scare away to Highland League side Fraserburg­h to book their place in the next round with a 4-2 win. Chris Mochrie put the Gable Endies ahead but Gary Harris levelled for the home side before Scott Barbour's penalty put the Broch into a winning position just four minutes later.

Graham Webster pulled Montrose level before the break with Russell Mclean scoring an overhead kick and Lewis Milne adding a fourth at the death.
