Olazabal survives for first time since 2014
Not since 2014 has two-time winner Jose Maria Olazabal been around for the weekend in the Masters, but it was mission accomplished for the Spaniard on his 32nd appearance at Augusta National.
“Well, I have to say that I enjoyed the two days,” said Olazabal.
Yesterday he added a 71 - his best score since posting the same number in the second round in 2015 - to an opening 75 to sit on two-over-par.
Olazabal claimed his first Green Jacket in 1994 before adding a second success in 1999. The conditions then were firm and fast and Olazbal has benefitted from a similar test this week as opposed to the soft conditions for the 2020 edition in November.
“I hit the ball better, but it's lovely to see Augusta play like we have the last two days, fast and firm,” said the 55-year-old. “It reminds me a lot of the late '80s and '90s. And I felt great. I felt relaxed.”

Cup captain was two-under for his last eight holes, helped by a great par save at the 17th after leaving his chip short but then rolling in a slick putt from around 25 feet.
“That was a great bonus,” he admitted. “I mean, that was fantastic. I put myself in trouble with my second
shot. I was trying to hit a fade. I pulled it and put myself in the worst position. Luckily, I made that putt, I made par, and I'll be here for the weekend.”
On his 40th appearance, that will not be the case for 1988 winner Sandy Lyle or Bernhard Langer or Fred Couples.
