Partick maintain four-point lead at League 1 summit with battling draw against Cove

-

Partick Thistle remain four points clear at the top of League One after drawing 2-2 away to Cove Rangers.

The Jags took the lead on seven minutes when Cove’s Scott Ross got the final touch on Scott Tiffoney’s low freekick to help the ball into his own net.

The hosts levelled from the penalty spot after 20 minutes with Rory Mcallister converting and Ryan Strachan put Paul Hartley’s men ahead on 76 minutes when he rifled in from 30 yards. The lead was short lived as Tiffoney hit a stunning instant reply.

Thistle boss Ian Mccall said: “I though it could have been five-all. I think a draw was probably fair.”

Airdrieonians moved five points clear of Montrose with a 2-1 home win over the Gable Endies to tighten their grip on a play-off place. The opening goal came on nine minutes as

Kyle Connell took advantage of Aidan Quinn’s slip to finish from outside the area.

On 56 minutes Connell saw a long-range effort deflected in to double the Diamonds lead. Graham Webster halved the deficit on 80 minutes but it was too late for the Angus side.

Connor Duthie scored a lastminute winner as Dumbarton jumped out of the relegation play-off zone and all but relegated Forfar 1-0.

In League 2, Elgin City roared back into the play-off mix with a 4-1 win at Stranraer with the Moray men rattling in their goals in the first 19 minutes.

Aiden Sopel stroked the ball home after three minutes and Kane Hester doubled their lead four minutes later. It was 3-0 with less than 10 minutes played when Brian Cameron headed home and Elgin added a fourth when Hester dinked a shot over Greg Fleming.

After the break Stranraer’s Ruari Paton picked up a second yellow card before Cammy Elliot grabbed a late consolation. Salim Kouiser-aissa scored a double as champions Queen’s Park returned to winning ways with a 2-1 success at Stirling Albion. Sean Heaver pulled one back late on.

Stenhousemuir’s David Hopkirk cancelled out Annan forward Tony Wallace’s strike as the sides drew 1-1 at Galabank.

Brechin’s faint hopes of avoiding finishing bottom were boosted as they beat Cowdenbeath 2-0 at Central Park, with goals from Chris Mckee and Bobby Barr.
