Not the time

Hours before the Scottish election, Boris Johnson reaffirmed his stance that ‘it is not the time’ for a second referendum.

Since he's one of the world champion liars he obviously means the opposite.

Alan Bennett

Isn’t his position not that different from that of the SNP, the Greens, the Conservatives and Labour? That is, that now is not the time for a referendum but the time for Covid recovery?

Alma Adams

Not up to him. Wasting his time grandstanding.

Charles Mackay

He is running scared.

Marjorie Collins

It's a sad day that we have to depend on a Tory, elected in England, to state the bleeding obvious and look out for our best interests. Shame the SNP only look after their own narrow-minded ambitions.

Cracking On

How narrow minded is it to seek to govern your own nation?

Never trust a Tory 28 regions voted “No Thanks”, four voted “yes”. Those four regions are trying to tear us out of the Union against the will of the Scottish voters. Erecting trade barriers with our biggest market!

G Wood We do need to get past the pandemic before we have another referendum and it's right and proper to focus on that and the economic recovery. The democratic demands of the people of Scotland cannot be ignored indefinitely, though.

Pam Ballam

Unhatched

"There is still much left for the parties to fight over in the final hours of the campaign," said polling expert Prof John Curtice.

Bottom line is: if you don’t

want an independence referendum in the next fiveyear term of the Scottish Government, vote for any union-supporting party. If you do wish a referendum to happen while we are dealing with the fallout from the global pandemic and resulting global recession, vote SNP or Green.

Coming to blows

Scottish communities are “overwhelmed” by applications for wind farms and feel powerless to fight against them, campaigners warned.

We will need a lot more

of these to power all the electric cars and house heating systems when we are not allowed to use gas or oil. Then there will need to be huge battery storage buildings to cope with demand.

Stuart Scott

Not great for the bird population!

Lorene Aquavella Williams

I like them and they're on the moors away from humans.

Patricia Anderson

Let us use our own in our back gardens and cut out the middle man.

Chick Macdonald As long as the longterm plan is to reduce energy costs to the people then I can live with windmills.

Alan Cubby Cuthbertson Their efficiency is questionable, hence they erect so many of them, a lot of downtime for each unit. And don’t look too closely at the energy required to build one of them.

Gordon Devlin Those things are disgusting eyesores and ruin the landscape.

Poll position

The SNP could be set for its worst result at the Scottish Parliament elections since it first came to power in 2007 under Alex Salmond, a new poll suggested.

Still the party of the people, though, and still an independence majority with the G reens.

Craig Hollywood Most people rightly want the Scottish Government to focus on Health, Education and the Economy rather than independence. Pretty dismal record on each but hopefully they will improve for all our sakes in the next parliament.

Stephen Russell No they won’t. That’s the one certainly we have. If the SNP had any idea of how to improve their dreadful record, don’t you think they would have done it by now, especially in the run-up to the election?

Patricia Bienkowski

Most people recognise that the UK government doesn’t work for Scotland and is not fit for purpose and unless you have the PM on speed dial he doesn’t represent you either.

Lynn Hamilton

The SNP and supporters want to break up a country all because they hate the Tories. How pathetic!

Fiona Ogilvie Taylor

I do not think they “hate the Tories” or only wish to govern because of that. I think they have a vision for a better country.
