Bonnyrigg Rose seek fans’ views on Old Firm colts proposal
Bonnyrigg Rose will ask supporters and club members to contribute their views on a proposal from the Lowland League to bring two Old Firm Colt teams into the division for one season.
The teams would compete alongsidethenewdundaspark side in an expanded league system and pay £25,000 each for the privilege. However, league officials have said their one-off entry and experiment would not adversely impact other clubs in the Lowland League.
Now Bonnyrigg, one of the leadingclubsinthefifthtier,will ask supporters for their input ahead of serving notice of the club’s intent.
"We are giving our members ourseasonticketholders,sponsors, committee and life members the chance to share their views on the proposal,” Rose announcedontheclubwebsite.
“One only needs to look at social media over the past few months when the proposal to add B teams into League 2 to understand that this is a highly emotive subject, with opin
ionwidelysplitonthemeritsor otherwise on it. We are a supporters club so as with most decisions of this magnitude we will leave it up to our members to decide in order to make sure the decision we make is representativeofourfanbase,rather than the opinions of a few.”
Proposals for Rangers and Celtic’ssecondarysideshaveresurfaced this season with suggestion they could be added to the SPFL pyramid at League Two level or in an expansion of the fourth tier as suggested by Brechin City.
Under the Lowland League plan the teams would be ineligibleforpromotionastheclubs would be included on a oneseason basis and still required to comply with all Lowland League membership criteria, including ground and staff requirements.
Rose will host a series of conference calls where they will share the league document circulated around clubs this week before gauging opinion and reporting their "declaration of intent" on which way each club willvote,onmondaynight.non season ticket holders can also contacttheclubwithviews.the club added: “We would stress we only want to hear views of our supporters, but would encourage supporters of all Lowland League clubs to get in touch with their club on their feelings about the proposal.”
