Time for change?

"The Brexit debacle has made it increasingly clear to at least half of Scots voters that the relationship between Scotland and Westminster urgently requires renegotiation," wrote Joyce Mcmillan.

No, what it has proven is the whole of the UK needs new leadership all across the board.

Keith Calder We need to be independent to choose our own path... end of.

Lynn Hamilton Mcmillan used her first three paragraphs to describe Scottish Nationalism. She finally appears to realise that blue and white painted faces, flags and cries of “Freeeedom” are not going to achieve what the Scottish Nationalists think it will.

Cameron Mcleod "Brexit debacle" – yet they think creating a border with England will not create similar problems for trade with their biggest customers! The naivety of the SNP is astounding!

Morag Mitchell The UK is nothing more than a corporation rather than a real country. It's time to dissolve The Union.

Charel Kristiansson With these recent France UK fishing disputes and the independence debate, it's already so reminiscent of 1646. Seems like the SNP have almost achieved their wish to turn the clocks back a couple of centuries.

Robert Boyle I don't think the UK should agree to any attempt at federalism. And we all know that most people don't want Scotland to leave the UK so it's irrelevant.

Susan Nicholson The federal boat sailed far far away when the question was refused as an option on the 2014 ballot. Full independence is Scotland's way forward.

Duncan Macdonald

The SNP are taking their fat Westminster salaries and their even fatter expense accounts while peddling an impossible pipe dream, Scotland cannot afford to be independent and rejoining the EU, if it even exists in a year’s time, would put Scotland at the same table as Moldova, all regained sovereignty will be swallowed by Brussels and Scotland will have the euro tied to its fiscal deficit, good luck with that. Time the Scottish people got rid of these carpetbaggers

Dave Mcgowan I just wonder if all the people who are laughing at the comments stating the consequences of independence and what will happen, will they be laughing when the cold reality of independence is a reality. We shall see.

Elizabeth Chapman The majority of the Scottish people urgently require independence, as we are wide awake now and know that nothing they promise us will be honoured. They will say what we want to hear then renege on it all and continue to treat us with utter contempt and openly hate us. It must be independence.

Joe Macreany People seem to forget that SNP were taking us out of both the EU and UK in 2014.

There was no winging about it then. In fact 45 per cent of voters who voted, voted for it.

Keir hardy?

Hopes of a Labour revival under Sir Keir Starmer have suffered a massive blow after the Conservative Party won the Hartlepool by-election – for the first time since it became a constituency.

I expected great things from Keir Starmer but don’t think anyone knew what he proposed. A bit of a damp squib.

Jacqui Hood The Hartlepool by-election result was not a blow for the Labour Party but a decisive blow for sir Keir Starmer and his new New Labour Party and his leadership. This result is not so much an endorsement of conservatism or the Conservative party as a total rejection of new New Labour I look forward to hearing the new New Labour leadership excuses.

Bobby Cochrane

The Labour party is finished… we had Militant who turned everyone off, then Militant became Momentum. The old left are still there, communists in disguise. The people of Hartlepool have rejected both Labour parties – not too difficult to understand, is it?

Gary Taylor The realisation that wealthy London is Labour and Remain and what most nationalists are actually railing against are working class people in the North of England who suffer greater wealth disparity with London than Scots do.

Rory Kennedy Old Labour, New labour, left Labour... they are finished. At least conservatives are leading the country and getting us out of a pandemic.
