Elizabeth Chapman The majority of the Scottish people urgently require independence, as we are wide awake now and know that nothing they promise us will be honoured. They will say what we want to hear then renege on it all and continue to treat us with utter contempt and openly hate us. It must be independence.

Hopes of a Labour revival under Sir Keir Starmer have suffered a massive blow after the Conservative Party won the Hartlepool by-election – for the first time since it became a constituency.
I expected great things from Keir Starmer but don’t think anyone knew what he proposed. A bit of a damp squib.
Jacqui Hood The Hartlepool by-election result was not a blow for the Labour Party but a decisive blow for sir Keir Starmer and his new New Labour Party and his leadership. This result is not so much an endorsement of conservatism or the Conservative party as a total rejection of new New Labour I look forward to hearing the new New Labour leadership excuses.
