#ANGELARAYNER

After being sacked as Chair by Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, Angela Rayner MP has been given a beefed-up role as Shadow Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, opposing Michael Gove in the House of Commons.

@101Maurice tweeted: “Pitting Angela Rayner against Michael Gove as Shadow Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster is fun enough but imagine how much more fun it would have been if she'd been made Shadow Leader of the House of Commons, facing Jacob Rees-mogg across the dispatch box."

@Holliethecard replied:

“It would like pitting a 1914 Frigate against a 2021 Trident.”

@Hamlins73 repied: “She is still way out of her depth with Gove. I think Starmar gave that role to her as a punishment.” @sandieshoes added: “She’s up against Michael Gove. He’ll eat her for breakfast He’s excellent at the dispatch box."

@Glasscorridor said: “The biggest shock around Rayner's sacking is the revelation Labour having a campaign co-ordinator for the local election period was even a thing.”

@davemacclad wrote: “Why is Angela Rayner being blamed for Labour’s poor performance when it was clearly Meghan Markle.”

#VOTERID

According to the Guardian, the UK government is set to introduce a requirement for people to show photo IDS before voting in general elections as a way to reduce the risk of electoral fraud.

@Maxjlhardy wrote: “16 years a criminal barrister in London and never done an electoral fraud/voter impersonation case. Also don't know anyone who has. Voter ID is a solution without a problem. But voter ID is a problem.”

@mikeysmith wrote:

“At Lobby briefing, Boris Johnson’s spokesman justifies voter ID plans by comparing it to using photo ID to ‘"take out a library book’ or ‘pick up a parcel’. Neither of these things requires photo ID." @Chrisdo308 tweeted: “Voter ID Cards to be announced in Queens speech... excluding our poorest voters who don’t usually vote Tory ...Welcome to Zimbabwe”

@Eddyston added: “You cannot introduce Voter ID cards unless you make them free and easy to obtain. Or you are restricting people's ability to vote.”
