'It's not too late': New education secretary urged to cancel high school pupil assessments

Yeah, except that from what I’m hearing, pupils are missing these assessments because whole classes are being told to isolate on the basis that onr classmate had a positive lateral flow test that turns out to be false positive when the follow-up PCR is done. In short, the whole thing is still being disrupted by Covid. It would seem sensible to scrap it.

Evelyn Tait The teachers are doing the work of the SQA. They are bending over backwards to prevent any bias against a pupil and gathering evidence to support the grades they give. Blame the SQA for the demands they are making on both the teachers and pupils. The SQA are not fit for purpose.

The new education secretary does need to make a clear explanation statement before further needless hysteria ensues.

Another way of looking at this is that perhaps the assessments will give a better understanding of how the children coped with learning during lockdown, then allow teachers and the government to focus on the children's needs. It doesn't have to be doom and gloom, it could work out to the children's advantage. Plus let's not pile pressure on the kids, thinking that they will fail. Tell them to just do their best.

Despite the worries of the SSTA, the largest teaching union, the Educational Institute for Scotland, which was party to the planning of the ACM, has said that while there are “challenges for schools and teachers” the extended deadline to June 25 would “maximise time for

learning and teaching” and would give pupils “the best opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned."

The non exams under exam conditions and marked as if they are exams are taking place. A bit late for this!

Another education fiasco, most of these assessments have finished now.

The SNP have had two academic years to get this sorted. It’s going to be an even bigger mess than last year’s fiasco overseen by Swinney, now the SNP Minister for Good Morning Scotland.

She did so well for they auld folks last year in care homes! Our bairns are in safe hands, with the grim reaper ready to plunge into a new post. Another one who’s had no experience outside of politics - politics and silly excuses.

Raman Green John Swinney will fix it.
