Minister suggests self-isolation for fully-vaccinated people to continue
People who have had both doses of a Covid-19 vaccine should still isolate if they come into contact with a positive case, the UK vaccines minister said as he revealed a fully-vaccinated member of his family had contracted the virus.
Nadhim Zahawi appeared to suggest that quarantine requirements will be maintained for those who come into contact with positive casesafterallmeasureshavebeen scrappedundertheroadmap, eveniftheyhavereceivedboth jabs.
His comments followed a report which said the 23 million people who have been fully vaccinated could still be forced to isolate for ten days
if contacted by the NHS after June 21, adding that a negative test would not allow an early end to quarantine.
But Mr Zahawi told MPS the Governmentislookingathow contacts of people who have Covid-19 can be regularly tested instead of having to isolate andsaidmoredetailswouldbe set out next month.
Speaking in the Commons, Conservative former minister Mark Harper said: "Post-june 21, it's important not only that legal restrictions go and social distancing goes, but all of the remaining rules are adjusted to reflect the much lower risk thatexistsoncewe'vevaccinated the population - otherwise we'regoingtohavethoserules in place forever."
And Mr Zahawi responded: "Even if you've had - and I've hadthisexperienceinmyown family-twodosesofeithervaccine you can still actually contract Covid and therefore you should be isolating and quarantining. We're also looking at ways that contacts of people who may have contracted Covid can be regularly tested instead of isolating."
