Martin joins Morton Fraser rural team as senior solicitor

● Morton Fraser, one of the largest independen­t law firms in Scotland, has appointed Martin Minton as senior solicitor, agricultur­al and rural team. Martin began in his role as the first step in the firm’s plans to grow the team over the next 12 months.

Martin joins from Inksters, where he started his career as a student researcher and subsequent­ly trainee solicitor. He grew up on a croft in Wester Ross and now specialise­s in crofting law, providing legal advice and support with purchasing, selling and registerin­g crofts, as well as with access issues, boundary disputes and crofting succession. Martin said: “I am thrilled to join the team at Morton Fraser. They are always a pleasure to meet at the other end of a case, and the firm has a strong reputation for being a great place to work. I’m looking forward to focusing even more on providing crofting legal advice to a variety of clients.”

The agricultur­al and rural team provides advice to both private and public sector clients, including the Scottish Wildlife Trust and Scottish government. Martin is based in Morton Fraser’s Glasgow office. Stewart Milne Group managing director for strategic developmen­t, Alex Goodfellow, has been appointed chair of the Confederat­ion of Timber Industries (CTI), taking over from Roy Wakeman OBE.

Mr Goodfellow has more than 35 years’ experience working in the housebuild­ing and offsite timber frame industry. He has worked at Stewart Milne Group for 20 years and spearheade­d the evolution of the business to become a UK market leader, driving innovation in product design and accelerate­d build strategies, and lobbied for the increase in Modern Methods of Constructi­on across the industry. Partner Michelle Fallon is accountanc­y firm Chiene + Tait’s new head of private client tax, leading the 20-strong team, while her colleague Alan Dean has been promoted to the role of director.

Michelle joined the firm in 2013 before being promoted to director level in 2017 and made a partner in 2019. Alan joined C+T in 2018 after working with accountant­s French Duncan and legal firm Turcan Connell. He specialise­s in advising high-net worth individual­s, trusts and businesses on a range of tax planning issues, including succession planning.
