Scotland cap Munsey stars for RHC on and off field

- By WILLIAM DICK

RH Corstorphine captain Caleb Whitefoord watched George Munsey destroy Watsonians before claiming the club’s new player-coach is having an even bigger impact off the field.

Munsey fired a 73-ball century and claimed four wickets as Corstorphine claimed their second Eastern Premier win of the season at East Barnton. Whitefoord said: “George was phenomenal – he really showed his class.”

Scotland star Munsey stroked eleven boundaries and powered seven maximums in his 104 before 46 from James Dickinson and a rapid 35 from Robert Taylor took RHC to 255-8. Munsey then claimed 4-25 while Ally Sadler accounted for dangermen Michael Carson and Oli Hairs as Sonians were dismissed for 187.

“It was a serious effort from George with the ball to bowl ten straight but we don’t win that game without massive contributions from James Dickinson and Ally Sadler who stood up with the bat and ball respectively.

“To be honest the contributions George has made off the field have been even bigger than the ones on it. He’s been down helping out with preparing the ground almost every evening and has brought so much to the club in his short time here.”

Grange and Forfarshire remain the early pacesetters after both claimed their third straight victories at the expense of Stewart’s Melville and Meigle.

Hayes van der Berg was run out for 98 at Goldenacre but his contribution was enough to help Heriot’s to 254, a winning total against Carlton who succumbed to 90 with Ryan Brown claiming 5-12.

Player-coach Matty Parker top-scored with 88 as Arbroath claimed their first win of the campaign at the expense of Stoneywood-dyce at Lochlands.

Meanwhile, Majid Haq marked his Prestwick debut with a match-winning allround display to put Stirling to the sword at New Williamfield.

As the Western Premier made its delayed start, the former Scotland hero hit 52 to help the Ayrshire side post 214-9. The hosts reached 80-0 but Haq’s introduction to the attack proved decisive, the offspinner claiming 4-9 from his ten overs.

Zeeshan Khan hit 103 as Langside celebrated their top flight debut with an 81-run win at Greenock.clydesdale served notice of their title credentials with a battling fourwicket win over champions Uddingston at Bothwell Castle. Fergus Clarke’s 52 was the only major contribution to Uddingston’s 137. The home bowlers made Dale work but Imran Mughal’s 42 was decisive.

Ferguslie’s Adil Ghaffar was promoted to open the batting for the first time and responded by scoring 100 while Taimoor Ahmad later claimed five wickets in a 167-run win at West of Scotland. Promoted Dumfries secured a 70-run win over Poloc at Nunholm.
