Keep Busy proves a class apart with impressive win at Ayr

- By PETER ALLISON

Class told in the feature race at Ayr yesterday, the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Land O’burns Fillies’ Stakes, when the highest rated horse Keep Busy stormed through to win the five furlong sprint.

The four year-old, trained by John Quinn, was sent off the 4-7 favourite and was running exactly a week after finishing fifth in the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Her jockey Jason Hart kept things simple racing in midfield before coming with a strong run to finish clear of

Irish raider Dickiedooda. In winning the Land O’ Burns, Keep Busy was following in the hoof prints of her mother Look Busy who won the race in 2008.

Jim Goldie rarely leaves Ayr without a winner and he had a double on the day with Be Proud coming with a great late run to win the Enjoy Afternoon Tea @westernhousehotel Handicap under Paul Mulrennan at odds of 100-30 and Gleniffer, 11-4 joint favourite, proving too strong for his rivals in the Weddings At Western House Hotel Handicap with Mulrennan also in the saddl e.

Mike Smith, who trains 10 miles from the track at

Galston, saddled Flying Moon, 9-1, to land the opening mile handicap with jockey Paddy Mathers producing the gelding to win in the shadow of the post.

Dumfries trainer Iain Jardine was also celebrating when St Andrew’s Castle, 25-1, won the two-year-old maiden stakes with Andrew Mullen riding. Greengage made it three wins at Ayr this season when winning the Ayrshire Cancer Support Handicap for trainer Tristan Davidson and jockey Hart at odds of 11-4.

Meanwhile, Keith Dalgleishtrained Chichester could be the one to grab the headlines in the Stablemate By AGMA Carlisle Bell Handicap at Carlisle today. Formerly trained by Sir Michael Stoute, Chichester placed twice in five starts for the Newmarket team, but following a winter gelding operation and wind surgery, he wasted no time getting off the mark for new connections at Newcastle in April.

Placed in two of his four subsequent outings - including the Zetland Gold Cup at Redcar - Chichester appears to be thriving in his new surroundings and after moving up to 10 furlongs, it is intriguing that Dalgleish returns to a mile here.

However, Chichester's only victory to date was over that distance so the decision makes sense and off an unchanged mark of 85, he should be competitive.
