#FOOTBALL

Joyce Mcmillan’s Scotsman article in which she said football caused Scotland's Covid spike and remains an excuse for sectarianism, domestic violence and racism caused a stir.

@Amoruso1998 said: “The 50 per cent or so who do not follow football? Did you pluck that number out of thin air or is there any substance to that figure? Why don’t we talk about the biggest failure of the summer which is the track and trace debacle – that is having a bigger impact than the Euros.”

@Greigwb commented: “A deeply offensive article written by someone who I assume believes it is 1972. Where is the article criticising the middle classes who are demanding holidays without care or regard?”

@knowledgeisall posted: “So, Cheltemham last year, Royal Ascot this year, exempt from any testing criteria? 18,000 at cricket? Full centre and No. 1 courts at Wimbledon? Ill-informed rubbish from someone who has firmly entrenched ideas about people she has never met.”

@Johncandie remarked: “How about the behaviour of people who attended the British Lions game at Murrayfield last weekend

who showed a distinct lack or care for the rules on social distancing nor for their attitude towards myself and my staff trying to ensure we adhered to them.”

@hutchison_dave said: “Appalling article, full of generalisations and baseless accusations. Completely ignores the good football clubs do for communities across Scotland and tars every fan as a drunken yob/ biggot/racist.”

@kyle1point5 added: “Take it she’s never cracked a can on an away bus in Scotland.”

#CLIMATECHANGE

The SQA is under fire from the Greens for asking pupils to give explanations on the "positive" effects of climate change.

@batman_glasgow said: “Two sides to every story, except in Scotland where only one side can be heard. How can kids learn critical thinking if they aren't allowed to think?"

@ANDYH79 posted: “Always nice to see people trying to stop education from teaching the importance of looking at things from multiple angles.”

@Frank1975g added: “They do know that teachers write the content in qualifications? Subject specialists… it’s not done by random people with an agenda.”
