#IANBLACKFORD
SNP Westminster leader Ian Blackford challenged Boris Johnson at PMQS yesterday over his use of racist language amid a row over the racial abuse hurled at England players after their Euros defeat.
@Mrdadonoghue wrote: “SNP'S Ian Blackford calls out Boris Johnson, in the context of racial abuse suffered by England footballers, for describing Africans as 'flag waving piccaninnies with watermelon smiles'. Johnson claims his words have been 'taken out of context'. Is there a context for that?!”
@notwavingdrowning tweeted: “Don’t vote SNP but like the way Ian Blackford goes for the jugular rather than Starmer’s clever but ultimately ineffectual approach…”
@Furnessgirl wrote: “Ian Blackford is very good.”
@Therodcooper added: “Know little of Scottish politics or his activities up there, all I know is he is one of the very best speakers in the Commons and in a different class from Johnson.”
@westwood replied: “Maybe Google Charles Kennedy and Ian Blackford. That will change your view!”
@Msccollins tweeted: “Ian Blackford is underrated. Deliberately so.”
#HIGNFY
The Twitter account for the BBC comedy panel show tweeted: ‘Amid calls to ban racist football fans from grounds indefinitely, clubs argue they’d struggle to survive with attendances of 12.’
@Richardgrdham tweeted: “I get that this is a 'joke' but I'm probably into four figures for football matches attended, and I'm pretty certain that the ratio of racists I've encountered as HIGNFY guests sits higher than the racists I've encountered on my footballing travels.”
@jmesbrinning dded: “I like watching HIGNFY but this is such a snivelling middle class tweet... especially from a show that seems to have done more than its fair share to promote the likes of Boris Johnson, Farage and Reesmogg.”
@Lukedyks added: “A pathetic joke most likely made by a snobby middle class prat.”
@weareallwestham wrote: “I love #HIGNFY but punching down on racism when you have helped turn Farage, Johnson and Reesmogg into "lovable" cartoon characters and also had Jimmy Savile and Rolf Harris on the programme is not a good look.”
