Gesture politics?

-

Racism after Euro 2020 final showed why those who oppose 'taking the knee' are wrong said Christine Jardine MP.

You massively overestimate the ability of those people to engage in any kind of self reflection.

Mike Hamilton

Taking a knee is disrespectful and childish. It is Marxism.

Steve Roberts

I take it you have never read a single sentence written by Marx. What is really childish is a naive criticism of Marx based on the simplistic bad press he receives from the capitalists that run the libertarian media.

Ni Holmes They can do what they want in protest as far as I am concerned but what are the authorities going to do about it is what I want to know. Absolutely nothing by the looks of it.

Rick Glass

I think Southgate and the England team (many of whose best players were black) have put themselves on "the right side of the debate". They were principled and dignified.

Peter Lewis I agree. I'm just not sure taking the knee is necessarily the best approach. What happened to the young footballers does highlight, I agree, that much more has to be done.

Frank Brown if you accept there's a problem why do you have issues with taking the knee. It works, as everyone knows exactly what and why they're protesting.

Jock Herer T hose who oppose this abhorrent gesture are not "wrong". They see it for what it is... A symbol of an extremist, racist organisation. No matter how they dress it up and pretend that it has nothing to do with BLM, it changes nothing.

Politics has no place in sport.

Alastair Browne No need for knee-t aking Stand against racism is a better idea.

John Cronin

Christine Jardine is entitled to her opinion, but it’s not a popular one and why does she think she’s entitled to brand all those who oppose it as “wrong”?

Patricia Bienkowski

Thanks, Scotsman, for the write-up to highlight the racism black citizens face in Britain.

Esiri Delekpe When you have to put a colour before the person, then you are part of the problem.
