Hearts earn first win of SWPL season as leaders Glasgow City hit nine past Spartans

-

Hearts overturned a two-goal deficit to register their first SWPL 1 win of the season with a 3-2 win over Aberdeen.

The Dons edged in front in the 18th minute at the Balmoral Stadium through Eva Thomson’s volley and it got worse for the Jambos two minutes later as Donna Paterson’s flick at the near post doubled the home side’s advantage.

But Eva Olid’s side gave themselves a lifeline two minutes before the interval, Amelie Birse quickest to react following a Monica Forsyth shot that hit the crossbar.

The visitors drew level three minutes after the restart when Forsyth capitalised on some hesitancy in the Dons defence to prod the ball home and the comeback was complete when Birse got her second and Hearts’ third from 25 yards with 20 minutes remaining.

Meanwhile, Hibs Women lost 1-0 to Rangers at Livingston's Tony Macaroni Arena, Zoe Ness hitting the only goal of the game six minutes into the second half.

Elsewhere, league champions and current leaders Glasgow City inflicted a heavy 9-0 defeat on Spartans.

Tyler Dodds opened the scoring in the second minute before further efforts from Julia Molin, Aoife Colvill, Cailin Michie and Jo Love gave the hosts a 5-0 half-time lead. Second-half goals from Taylor Fisher, Colvill, and a Lauren Davidson brace completed the rout.

Second-placed Celtic kept pace with Glasgow City, who they trail by goal difference, with a 6-0 win over Partick Thistle. Captain Kelly Clark celebrated 200 appearances for the club with a solid cleansheet, as the Hoops stretched their unbeaten domestic run to 20 games. Charlie Welling bagged her first hat-trick for the club as Maria Olafsdottir Gros and Shen Mengyu opened their accounts to complement Kathleen Mcgovern’s first-half strike.

Motherwell cruised to their first league win of the season after defeating rivals Hamilton 3-0 at Alliance Park in the first Lanarkshire derby.

Leanne Crichton opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Lori Gardner added a spectacular second on the stroke of half-time. Academy graduate Jemma Hughes fired home the third in the second half to secure the Steelwomen’s victory.
