#CRUISESHIPS
The first of two cruise ships that will provide accommodation for COP26 summit delegates has arrived in Scotland. The Latvian-flagged Romantika has berthed at King George V dock, next to Braehead Shopping Centre in Renfrew.
@Pete_ches said: “As part of COP26 Glasgow Council has committed to planting 18 million trees – I hadn't realised it was just to cover the carbon emissions associated with holding the thing.”
@grumpzie posted: “Bring them from all over the world at enormous cost and carbon footprint then close them up tight in a tin petri dish so they can share the love and Covid variants.”
@nwgrnd_graeme commented: “These types of ships are massive polluters. I’ve never understood why delegates travel from all over the world to attend climate change conferences.”
@Augustuspember3 joked: “Paint a rainbow on the port side and call the French.”
@nigelreynolds remarked: “This does not show Scotland and specifically Glasgow in a good light when ships have to be brought in. It looks as though Glasgow does not have sufficient suitable hotel accomodation. Maybe another location would have been more appropriate for this meeting.” @jonathangray24 added: Belching out fumes. And all of the guests will be flying in their private jets no doubt, whilst they lecture us about not having a steak to save the planet.”
#ROLLINGSTONES
The Rolling Stones have dropped Brown Sugar, one of their biggest hits, from their US tour. It follows unease with the depictions of black women and references to slavery in the song.
@gastrospasm asked: “It wasn't a euphemism for heroin?”
@jessrmerc replied: “It was, but using a dark skinned woman as a euphemism for heroin is still ‘not great’.”
@Wpupo posted: “Maybe they’ll give African American artist the royalties from the music they stole.”
@John18569920 said: “There goes White Christmas.”
@Anastasiansw commented: “Very disappointed that the Rolling Stone, of all people, would submit to wokery about this song. I expected better.”
@greg_faltin added: “It’s their song. They can play it (or not) as they please.”
