Starmer storm

Nicola Sturgeon’s record in government on Health and Education is “appalling”, with the SNP shielding themselves from criticism with the constitutional debate, Labour Party Sir Keir Starmer said.

Remind me which health service is the worstperforming one in the UK? Why, I believe it is Labourrun Wales.

Andy Stephen Wales does not count as the health service is not fully devolved, unlike Scotland, where we have more devolved powers that we don’t use for fear of being blamed.

Gerard Rhodie We outperform England in literally all these categories. We should always be looking to improve and not judge our own standards on what England does, but that doesn't change the fact that in terms of things like

Education, Health, etc, we are the best performing nation in the UK.

Xander Wilson

Why are you pointing to England in true Nat fashion? Are you deliberately missing the point or are you genuinely not understanding? Every service devolved to Scotland has worsened under SNP’S stewardship than under the previous Labour administration. The SNP are running Scotland into the ground whilst Nats whine on about England.

Susan Freemantle

He’s correct. Scotland has always spent more per person on health, and yet our life expectancy is now worse.

Philip Hartley

Absolutely right, she and the SNP are clueless across the board and have been a disgrace to the people of Scotland, telling lie after lie.

Michael Wyllie

That’s a bit rich coming from a leader of the opposition whose party trails the most corrupt, incompetent, lying, right wing Government in living memory, by between 5% and 10% in the opinion polls. Scotland gave its opinion on Nicola Sturgeon’s record in May and gave her party its endorsement with its largest-ever share of the constituency vote. Meanwhile, “Scottish” Labour lags miles behind the Tories and continues to lose support in Scotland.

David Howie The Westminster crew are terrified that Scotland may just get another referendum and may just vote to leave the UK.

Be nice to Tories

Columnist John Mclellan wrote about the ‘undisguised contempt’ of elected representatives who spit out the phrase ‘Tory scum’ or express hatred for ‘Toaries’.

You really are delusional. She’s trying to create a modern, fair, clean, progressive Scotland and that’s why she’s voted in year on year. You might not agree with her stance on Scotland being an independent country but no way does it imply that anyone hates you. Wise up and stop playing the victim card.

Bryan Shand British politics is descending into what we would expect in Third World countries. Disagreeing with someone’s point of view descends into verbal or written abuse, instead of agreeing to disagree. Politicians are helping to stir up passions merely to secure hardcore support to enable them to stay in power rather than [promote] the core beliefs of their party they are supposed to represent.

Ian Macfadzean Yes, it's one of the distinguishing aspects of Scottish politics. Whereas most countries have a party that espouses ‘right wing’ political philosophies

(eg emphasis on wealth creation rather than wealth redistribution, freedom of the individual rather than state control) there seems to be a "demonissation" of the Conservatives in Scotland. It’s bizarre given that many Conservative principles stem from a Scotsman, Adam Smith and his Wealth of Nations treatise.

Peter Lewis

However, today the Conservative consciousness has lost itself to populist politics of Brexit, which too promises the masses social equality and justice.

Del Rashid

It has to be said, that since Nationalism has risen, so has lack of tolerance, and bad manners.

Ken Purdie Bile and hatred are Sturgeon’s only ‘success’.

William Wilson

One would wonder if this aversion and rhetoric against the Tories could possibly have anything to do with, for example, [Jacob] Rees-mogg calling people on benefits for "the scourge of the earth?"

Mattias Bengtsson

Scotland doesn’t vote Tory. They promise carbon capture and industry jobs but deliver zero.
