Cuthbert ‘learning a lot about beauty of football’

- SCOTLAND WOMEN By ANGUS WRIGHT

Erin Cuthbert is learning about the beauty of football under new Scotland Women's head coach Pedro Martinez Losa.

The Spanish boss began his tenure in the World Cup qualifying campaign with a 2-0 win in Hungary and a 7-1 hammering of the Faroe Islands at Hampden Park.

Scotland sit second behind section leaders Spain on goal difference ahead of the visit of Hungary to Glasgow tonight and Cuthbert is enjoying life with Martinez Losa.

The 23-year-old Chelsea attacker said: "We have learned a lot and I have definitely learned a lot. There has been a flurry of information, so much to take in, a lot of meetings.

"But I have learned a lot about the beauty of football, the beauty of keeping the ball, the beauty of having possession and being able to move and help out your teammates. I feel like it is more free-flowing football and he is very much of the idea of play what you see. It is quite nice to have a structure and foundation, but also just go and express yourself and I feel that is what a lot of the players are doing.

"I am never going to be the finished article, ever, so I am always going to be learning no matter what age I am or what stage I am at in my career. I think it is nice to experience different managers and different things.

"I am still learning a lot under Emma Hayes at Chelsea and then I am coming here and I have got Pedro. I am really enjoying it. I just like to play with freedom and it is nice I have that here." Cuthbert revealed the Scotland have been working on

moving the Hungarians out of their shape. She said: “We have to keep shifting the ball and dragging them out of position to makes spaces and we have been working on that." A third qualifying win in a row could put Scotland nine points clear of Ukraine in third, though Spain top the group after winning their opening two games against Faroe Islands and Hungary.

Losa has been boosted by the return of Caroline Weir and Lisa Evans, both of whom missed last month’s qualifiers through injury. Hibernian’s Amy Muir has also been recalled.

Kick off is 7:35pm. Tickets are available and the match is also live on BBC Alba.
