UC cut ‘shame’

-

The SNP has claimed the decision not to assess the impact of the cut to the Universal Credit should “shame” the UK Government ahead of the budget announcement from Rishi Sunak this week.

Surely the impact is well known – claimants will be poorer.

Graeme Senior Welfare is devolved to Holyrood. If the ‘Shortbread S enate’ are concerned benefit claimants will be thrown into poverty then they could introduce their own top-up benefit. The Scottish Government can choose to introduce benefit top-ups as they have with the Scottish Child Payment which provides £10 per week for every child under six . This benefit does not affect any other UK or Scottish benefit.

And you'd be happy if they raised your taxes to pay for it?

James Thomas Kilpatrick Caroline Currie, you mean mitigate the Westminster cuts. There will come a time when Scotland will get fed up mitigating Westminster’s cuts and failures – it’s coming very soon.

It’s not a cut, it wasn’t being paid before Covid. The SNP have it in their gift to pay it, indeed, it would be a better use of our money than all the millions being squandered on pretendy embassies, over a hundred advisers and tens of millions of damages payments after bungling-up a prosecution of Rangers.

Mike Scales

A good help to people would be The Scottish Government funding c ouncils properly.

In Scotland we need to assess the impact of SNP Populist tax investment choices… and the fact that the SNP have left Scottish Devolved Welfare powers with the Conservative Government.
