Reds alert
understand that concern. It’s not as simple as homeless people equals bad (though the council really needs to do better in this regard).
Ciorstaidh Mcintosh Anti-homeless architecture is disgusting – going out your way to make their quality of life even worse when they can’ t even sit down somewhere that’s not the ground. It makes their lives even more demoralising. Put the money to improving quality of life and housing people instead of this and over-the-top festivals in the city centre.
Sophie Thomson We can’t have Queen Nicola looking out the window of
Bute House and seeing poor people.
James Brydon As I understand it there are enough beds in Edinburgh for everyone. I believe that is a statutory obligation for every council.
Eric Christison Some of these beds are within hostels where many homeless folk feel more at risk than they do sleeping on the streets. That speaks volumes.
Kirsty Welsh Instead of blocking off shelter for homeless people, find them somewhere. Maybe ask student accommodation developers to dedicate a floor for every tower they build for the homeless.
Jaime Neal In a civilised society nobody should be homeless.

Russia is “taking interest” in the online Scottish independence debate as part of its push to “magnify division” in nationalist debates across Europe, the UK defence minister Ben Wallace has claimed.
Not really surprising. They are interested in weakening any foreign power whom they perceive as a threat. It is no secret that the Russian are seriously annoyed at the UK for helping Ukraine.
Mike Hannah
Nonsense! Currently the SNP policy is for Scotland to remain a member of Nato, thus receiving and contributing to Nato intelligence. Scotland, as a member of the EU, would have direct access to sources of information that the UK Government doesn’t have. There is also Interpol. Also, Scotland does not have any enemies, unlike the UK. An independent Scotland, with nuclear weapons removed, will actually face less of a terrorist threat than it does currently.
