Frankel filly Red Square can land critical win at Lingfield

- By GLENDALE

Lingfield backers can collect with Red Square in the Betway Maiden Stakes.

The Frankel filly – who runs in the Westerberg colours that have emerged lately, with the exploits of Luxembourg and Tenebrism – was unraced at two, but has since been making reasonable progress without setting the world on fire.

Her first run was here in March, showing ability with her runner-up finish, before again running with credit in third at Kempton the following month. She was off after that until reappearing at Chepstow in June, having the misfortune to bump into the useful Sea La Rosa – a filly who is Group Three placed and a Listed winner since.

John and Thady Gosden’s charge is presumably difficult to keep right, because she has again been on the sidelines until now. Equally, she has shown enough to make it worthwhile persevering for that all-important win which will enhance her broodmare status when the time comes.

Sovereign Slipper can record an all-weather double in division two of the Heed Your Hunch At Betway Handicap.

Henry Candy’s Charm Spirit colt did not enjoy the best of trips when fourth at Kempton two runs ago, but made no mistake back there last time out. He is pretty unexposed on artificial surfaces and looks to have a bit more to offer yet.

Howzak is another to be with, as he goes in the Betway Supports Safer Gambling Week Handicap.

Robyn Brisland’s charge has lots of dash, and the drop to the minimum trip at Chelmsford proved just up his street as he made all for a decisive success.

It is not surprising connections have him out again quickly under a penalty.

Shamlaan should also be followed, in the Play Coral Racing-super-series For Free Nursery Handicap. Now with

Kevin Philippart de Foy, the Mehmas youngster finished with real purpose to strike on his all-weather bow over this course and distance in September, on what was to be his final outing for David O’meara.

Dream Together has claims in the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal Handicap at Redcar, on what is a first try at seven furlongs.

Trained by Jedd O’keeffe, the four-year-old did little wrong at Pontefract last time out under top-weight.

Always chasing the pace, he stuck to his guns well enough in third and is well worth a go at the longer trip, with conditions to suit.
