Portugal has banned bosses from text messaging and emailing staff out of working hours as part of new laws dubbed "right to rest". @jestingjeffrey said: “Here’s a radical thought, maybe when the sun goes down just live your own individual life until it comes back out the next morning.”

@Lacus09 posted: “Imagine, enacting a law for basic principles of business, including moral and ethical management issues; a clear indicator that we're still not emancipated from this slavery mentality and disrespect for fellow human beings.” @Leanmeanclean commented: “Easy fix. What if employees chose not to put up with bosses texting after work hours?” @real_roam replied: “I say the same. But I know a young employee who is too intimidated and afraid he’ll lose his job. He answers his boss’s texts and emails 24/7.” @Atlantisblu3 observed: “Far too many bosses believe that paying their employees for their work and specific amount of time equates to owning their employees’ lives.” @Ralstonch remarked: “That's what the pandemic have been teaching us – that there’s more to life than the economy.” @satyajit20033 said: “A very, very commendable step. Bosses have got no right to disturb employees after official hours. This should be a mandate and become a law in each and every country.” @Captaina711 asked: “If employees want to get on top of work out of hours why not? Just don't expect a response until the next working day.” @Burnertruth12 posted: “It’s a fine line. There are some things as an employee I would want and need to know after hours. On the other hand a lot bosses feel like they need to abuse underlings so they can get ahead.”

@Boysenberryp declared: “I’ve been thinking about a move to Portugal. This makes it even more appealing.”

@bug_b3ar said: “I hope this works well enough for the rest of the world to take note.”

@Launchfast warned: “Just another reason to replace human employees with AI and robots.” @Jimmyatlarge added: “Who remembers the days when smartphones did not exist and when you left work you actually left work?”
