Feeling deflated

-

Activists from the group ‘Tyred of SUVS’ have apologised for targeting cars that were not SUVS, after they deflated the tyres of roughly 60 cars in the West End of Glasgow yesterday.

So they don't like SUVS but don't know what a real SUV looks like!

Claire Kelly That's personal property, no matter what your views are.

Martin Given This form of protest only requires that a truck be called to tow or assist the stranded motorist. Thus causing more pollution. So it damages personal property, costs money and causes more emissions . . . sounds logical!

Craig Baker They should keep their hands off property that doesn’t belong to them!

Linda Chan Malcolm They shouldn't touch anybody’s property. How would they respond to someone trashing their stuff?

Oliver Crane This is not peaceful protest, it is vandalism.

Margaret Ferguson Burns What happens if you need to take a family member to hospital in an emergency? Not like you can wait for an ambulance – it will be 6-48 hours before it arrives.

Ross Viviani This action could badly and dangerously backfire. Let's hope no lives are lost by these actions, but they could be.

Gordon Dunbar I drive an SUV. It’s a 1.5 euro 6ap 130g/km. It’s not a gas guzzler. Why do I choose this vehicle? My wife is disabled, it’s comfortable for her, it accommodates her electric folding wheelchair along with weekend away bags for five adults comfortably.

Alana Haines Anyone else does this and it’s a crime. They should all be locked up for this, it’s disgraceful! Believe in

what you will, but no one has the right to vandalise other people’s hard-earned property. Should they not be at work or in school?

Shirley Dick This is getting ridiculous. That's criminal damage, they should be charged if they go taking liberties with people's property, no matter what excuse they give. I would be raging.

Helen Lang Ridiculous. Those people doesn’t have brains and only think about themselves and nothing else. No-one gave them enough attention in childhood and they are trying to get attention now by doing stupid things. Wonder

how they would they feel if their bike wheels (assuming they don’t use cars) were deflated after they rushed somewhere.

Liliana Zhao Stop calling them activists – they are are vandals who couldn’t give a toss about anyone’s property.

Michael Widdowson That’s the wrong way to go about getting people to listen.

Car wars

Sticking with the motoring theme, Edinburgh City Council’s transport convener has hit out at opposition claims she is engaged in a "war on cars". Lesley Macinnes rounded on councillors who attacked the administration for failing to heed the views expressed in public to consultations.

Given Edinburgh's topography and climate, what percentage of those citizens fit enough to cycle would be willing to commute regularly to work and arrive drookit and sweating?

Elizabeth Summerfield Goodness. What would she be like if she did wage a “war on cars”?

John Gillan If the council tax-payers of Edinburgh had voted for the congestion charge all those years ago, I think we would be in a very different position.

Graham Mcleod

So apparently some previous administration took it upon themselves to commit the city to this drive to eliminate motorised traffic from it. Well Cllr Mcinnes, as you can see the majority of those responding to your consultations do not agree with your complete disregard of their views so perhaps you could take the bit of paper the "previous" administration signed up to, feed it through one of the many shredders your council has, and start from scratch – but this time basing any future ideas on the explicit instructions of the majority of the council tax-payers.

Graeme Robertson

I wonder if the council staff car park in East Market Street will go and they will all be forced to lead by example and cycle or bus it.

Julie Starr

The potholes are winning the war against the car.

Tully Tulley

I wish she was waging a war on cars. It's cars that are killing our city . Not much else in this city is so bad for our health than the private car and the health of our children
