Selkirk up to sixth spot as they prove too strong for Border rivals Jed-forest

- By GARY HEATLY

Selkirk secured a 21-9 away victory at Riverside Park against Border rivals Jed-forest last night in the Tennent’s Premiership.

When the sides met last weekend at Philiphaugh, a last-gasp try and conversion earned Jed a 10-10 draw. However, Selkirk were in determined mood in the return game and are now up to sixth place in the table.

The visitors led 6-3 early on thanks to two Callum Anderson penalties before two tries, the second by James Bett, put them 18-6 up.

And a late Anderson penalty finished things at 21-9.

In this afternoon’s only match, Edinburgh Accies know that victory over bottom club Aberdeen Grammar at Rubislaw would see them leapfrog Hawick into third place in the table.

Accies are in decent form and beat the same opponents 28-7 with a bonus point at Raeburn Place seven days ago.

However, the capital men still expect a tricky tussle in the north east.

“Aberdeen away is one of the hardest games in the league and we will need to be at our best to come away with the points from Rubislaw,” said Accies head coach Iain Berthinussen.

For the trip there are several changes to last week’s Accies team with Sean Hegarty starting for the first time this season in the back-row and Vincent Hart, Neil Armstrong,

Jamie Troup, skipper Callum Black and Clem Lacour all returning to the starting XV.

Archie Winnington-ingram and Matthew Crowther are set to make their first team debuts from the bench.

With Edinburgh Rugby Academy player Cameron Scott unavailable, Craig Shepherd moves back to full-back for winless Grammar and

Nathan Brown comes in on the wing.

Mark New returns at centre with Nat Coe back in action in the second-row.

Grammar head coach Ali O’connor said: “A short turnaround to play the same team twice in a row as we welcome Accies.

“They were good value for the win and will go into this game as firm favourites."
