Keep it secret but Spycatcher can deliver Lingfield victory

- By NICK GRANT

Spycatcher has to be the one for the Mansionbet Beaten By A Head Conditions Stakes at Lingfield today.

His aptitude for the allweather will have to be taken on trust, but there is no doubting on his day he is pretty smart, as he showed when winning at Newmarket at the end of last month, readily accounting for a useful yardstick in Bahrain Pride.

He has kept good company all year and was only three lengths behind Creative Force at Newbury in May, before going on to the Jersey Stakes at the Royal meeting.

Peripeteia looks another likely type at the Surrey circuit, with Ryan Moore booked for the Mansionbet Proud Partners Of The AWC Novice Median Auction Stakes.

Stoutly-bred, everything she did when second on debut at Kempton over a mile in September suggested she would be seen to even better effect over further.

But she, in fact, came back in trip to seven furlongs at Newcastle, and was left outpaced when the taps were turned on. She did run all the way to the line at Gosforth Park, though, and this nine furlongs promises to be more her thing.

Moore might already be on the mark by the time he gets the leg-up on Peripeteia, as One Last Dance – who goes in the #Betyourway At Betway Handicap – has been knocking on the door in her last two runs.

The former champion could in fact be worth keeping tabs on all afternoon, with Amirat Alward another with strong claims up to six furlongs in the Watch Racing Free Online At Coral EBF Stallions Maiden Stakes.

Top-class jumps action at Haydock is headlined by the Betfair Chase, which might just offer Imperial Aura a real chance of bagging a Grade One.

Kim Bailey’s charge won at last year’s Cheltenham Festival, beating Galvin who has shown the merit of that form since, and started off the following campaign in great style, winning the Colin Parker at Carlisle and then the Chanelle Pharma 1965 Chase at Ascot.

The wheels rather came off after that, as he unseated when favourite at Kempton and was then out of sorts in the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham run at a furious gallop.

He has had a wind operation and his trainer has never doubted his ability, so everything adds up to a big effort.
