Professional Shaun Murphy believes amateur players should not be allowed to compete in professional snooker tournaments after his shock first-round loss at the UK Championship to Si Jiahui.

@custardwarrior wrote: “He beat you, a former world champion, proving that he does deserve to be there. Instead of having sour grapes, maybe look at your game, figure out where you went wrong and improve.”

@neonecho1 said: “They still have to qualify, don’t they? It’s a way to bring in potential new talent, and presumably if they do reasonably well they might consider becoming professional players.”

@ghostthatwalks9 tweeted: “Slingshots should be banned sayd Goliath after his shock defeat be amateur duellist.”

@ozymandius2505 tweeted: “The same Shaun Murphy that tried to qualify for the 2019 Open Golf Championship as an amateur?”

@Adixonmusic added: “I'm a big fan of Shaun but he's had a mare here. Should we also stop non league teams from entering the FA Cup in case they accidentally beat Chelsea?" @Chrisbessex wrote: “He’s not put that very well, but I read it as a man who might be feeling the pinch going in to Christmas and needed a cheque."

#STELLACREASEY

Labour MP Stella Creasey said it "has to be possible for politics and parenting to mix" after being told she cannot sit in the Commons with her three-month-old son.

@niaserenwib wrote: “Put the babies in charge, they'd do a better job.”

@connor_1313 asked: “Has she never heard of childcare, it's not like she isn't earning a decent salary, millions of mothers up and down the country have to just get on, why should she be any different, time to join reality Stella.”

@Maisymoocow said: “I read there's a nursery on site which she chose not to use.”

@andrea57 replied: “Have you seen how much it is at the Parliament nursery? Under 2, 2 days £585!”

@ourroborobot wrote: “The Commons isn't a strict workplace, it's a chamber for debate, announcements, etc the actual workplaces are the offices. Given compulsory attendance is a rare thing and people are caught sleeping there, I'm not sure why babies are so controversial...”
