Ikea has cut sick pay for unvaccinated staff who need to self-isolate because of Covid exposure, joining a growing list of firms changing their rules. Unvaccinated workers who are required to isolate could now receive the Statutory Sick Pay minimum of £96.35 a week.

@barmylad34 said: “So people are agreeing that employers can dictate your life completely. So should they do the same for smokers? Drinkers? Unfit people?”

@drifter104 replied: “They aren't dictating anything. Not being vaccinated costs them money. You need time off when you may not even be sick. All they are saying is, have the time off but we will only pay you the minimum.”

@Theglenwith1n posted: “Whether you’re vaccinated or not, you have to selfisolate, right? It sounds like back-door mandatory vaccination. This feels like a private organisation can’t bring itself to mandate vaccination for staff.”

@Joepattison8 commented: “Now we need the NHS to charge unvaccinated people for their Covid treatment.”

@Snipingfrom remarked: “This is a rational and evidence-based response to employees’ decisions. Freedom of choice doesn’t mean freedom from consequences.” @Henrymorris9 observed:” Surely if you do this you are just encouraging people to either hide symptoms or not test at all. Attempting to financially disadvantage people based on vaccinations is bad no matter what side of the fence you sit on.”

@tinash3_b added: “People agreeing with this have to understand that soon companies will come for you next. The tyranny of the majority will always be fair and great when you're in the majority until they implement a policy that puts you in the minority.”

#michaelgove Cabinet minister Michael Gove missed a BBC radio interview slot after getting stuck in a lift.

@Vansbm said: People may laugh, but there could have been other people in that lift with him… think of them for goodness’ sake.”

@astin1971 asked: “Was the elevator levelling up or levelling down?”

@Janetfarrugia58 suggested: “I expect he used the time wisely perfecting his dance moves.”
