#COMMONWEALTH

After the Cambridges’ awkward reception in the Caribbean, some people are asking if it’s too late to save the Commonwealth. @doodoo9603 replied: “The world has changed and the Commonwealth has become a thing of the past and [if] the people of the world today have their say [on] the monarchy, I expect it will disappear.”

@bob26 tweeted: The people of these countries should have r eferendums on things of this magnitude not have it forced on them by politicians without any mandate.”

@eee273 said: “Perhaps the question should be, is it too late to save the monarchy?” @Lecureciaaldao wrote: “The Commonwealth assures democracy in the countries that belong. Leaving could mean difficulties for the weaker ones. The UK doesn’t need the Commonwealth as much as they need it. Trouble is, many have leaders pretending to be ‘ progressive’[who] deprive their people of belonging.” @harikthe hod wrote: “So much upset over a bunch of elected politicians (maybe a wrong ’un or two in there) choosing to remove an unelected monarch as their head of state? To add salt to the wound this is a foreign monarch, their former colonial masters! Why do they still need to be a vassal state?” #CONTACTLESS Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak has been mocked for appearing to not understand how contactless cards work while buying a can of coke. @noelsnocoward reckoned: “He has not been in a shop before. That's why we need MPS that are in touch.” @sparkyneko said: “Breaking news! Rich man had a Waitrose order cancelled! Had to drive to a shop himself!” @robishungry wrote: “Someone who doesn't know how the real world works, and you want him making decisions about your life?” @jan934 wrote: “How the other half live, and they impose their will on us. The whole government need to go back to school but a comprehensive one, not Eton, so [they] understand how the rest of us learn.” @Vdweller said: “Paying for things is for the little people. None of them pay for their own stuff. We learned that during lockdown when Tory donors paid for food to be delivered to the Johnsons at No 10.”
