Alba ambitions
The Alba Party will field at least 100 candidates in the Scottish local council elections in May, former First Minister and Alba leader Alex Salmond said.
I'm not going to get into the whole Salmond debate but the 100 per cent truth of the matter is he and Alba are not going to win any elections. It's like thinking Dundee were going to win the Scottish Premiership as it's never going to happen.
Steven Andrew Stocks Well, that is democracy in action. If the candidates fulfil all the conditions needed to legally stand as a candidate, what is the problem? It is then up to the voter to vote for them or not. The voters, and the ballot box, as always, will be the final judge in these matters.

Incan Descent Just what I was thinking. Let's hope that proves to be the case. As it's local authority elections, for general and Holyrood ones, these results tend to be largely ignored. The ruling parties expect a protest vote. It's what happened in the last council elections, but the vote increase for the Tories, and decrease for the SNP, did not translate to other elections. Especially as it was not significant for the SNP. It was Labour that was most affected. This time will be different. There was no Alba last time out.

And will our beleaguered populace really want to see our 32 local councils seeded with yet another secessionist grouping, where they can’t achieve what they claim to want, adding nothing to the stalled administration’s attempts to address local bread and butter issues?
