#PARTYGATE

Twenty fines will be issued as part of the police inquiry into Downing Street parties that broke Covid rules. The Met police will not be saying who is fined or which events the fixed penalty notices relate to.

@Drrosena said: “Boris Johnson was adamant that all the guidelines were followed and no rules were broken. Now we hear that multiple fines are going to be handed out for Covid rule breaches at Downing Street.”

@Marcovanengels replied: “Boris's house rules weren't broken. Unfortunately, they differ somewhat from the rules imposed on the rest of the nation – as upheld by the police with these fines.”

@Myownperson7 posted: “So fed up with Partygate. Boris wasn't at almost all of the events. The world is in crisis yet we are wasting time on this non-story.”

@Mecanopsis responded: “Ministerial code aside and the ‘unintentionally’ misleading parliament bit, he was there and obviously permission was given for them to take place in his home and place of work.”

@kite_colin commented: “No-one cares. The police aren’t going to name those receiving fines so it’s all a complete waste of police time and money.”

@mikegalsworthy suggesed: “Everyone should write to their MP today, asking only this: ‘These fines prove the PM misled parliament and the public. What are you going to do about it?’”

@geoffwilton2 added: “The PM should resign to bring some dignity back to our politics, which is why he won't.”

#WAITROSE

Waitrose has sent a legal letter to Asda after its rival unveiled a similarly-named discount product range. Waitrose said Asda’s new ‘Just Essentia ls’ branding is too similar to its own ‘Essential Waitrose’ range.

@Sammimckean said: “Just when you think you've heard everything. Surely funds would be better spent not on litigation but on reducing the cost of products for customers? This is not a good look.”

@nezell commented: “No-one’s going into an Asda to do their shopping, seeing a ‘Just Essentials’ product and then thinking that they're in a Waitrose.”

@greenrascal_ posted: “I didn't realise Waitrose invented the word ‘essential’. Waitrose essentials would be top of the range at Asda.”
