#SCOTRAIL

Nicola Sturgeon launched the newly nationalised Scotrail at an event at Glasgow Queen Street. @drgmlennox tweeted: “And what a let down Queen Street station is. Completed months ago and still all the retail outlets are empty. Flagship train route and nowhere to buy a newspaper. Before the refurb there was WH Smit’s, Boots, Starbucks, Burger King, a pub and coffee stall. It’s embarrassing.” @Hilarythomson4 agreed: “I agree! Nowhere to pick up refreshments before long journeys and no pick up/ drop off area. Obviously the architects and planners have never travelled with young children or elderly plus luggage.” @anugent514 asked: “Did [Sturgeon] not run away from rail workers the last time she was in Queen Street?” @fyrishsunset wrote: “I really hoped this might be all just a big April fool’s day joke.” @jamesmc339 replied: “It is, but it doesn't end at midday.” @dragonzodiac2 wrote: “When you nationalise something you remove competition and thus the requirement to improve. This is a bad day for Scotland's trains – never mind, we get to wave a flag!"

#COVID

ONS data showed a record 4.9 million people in the UK were estimated to have had Covid in the week ending 26 March, up by 700,000 on the previous week. @bugdaffy23 wrote: “Cases, not hospitalisation or deaths... it’ll drop now people have to pay for testing and use common sense instead.” @matthewsharples8 wrote: “We have to accept it, Covid's gonna be around forever now. So if you are actually going to wait until it's eradicated before getting back on with your life, you're gonna be waiting from now until the end of time. ” @paulclayton replied: “How do you get on with life it vast swathes of the population become too ill to work, care for children, vulnerable or elderly people? If symptoms are mild you can function though mixing with others is a bad idea, but if services like GPS or others cannot be provided, then what?” @Fromaiden wrote: “Going ‘back to normal

’ is impossible. The old normal has been cremated. There is no way back. We need to move forward with mitigation instead of clinging onto the past whilst wearing blindfolds.”
