#ASYLUMSEEKERS

The first asylum seekers could be flown to Rwanda from the UK within weeks, the government has said. It follows the announcement of a pilot that will see people sent to the east African country to claim asylum there.

@57rovert said: “I don’t think they’ll stop trying to cross. Many are too desperate and will take the risk.”

@afarlie posted: “I don’t understand how an African country with higher population density and a fraction per capita GDP can handle thousands of refugees but one of the richest countries in the world cannot.”

@2DORR commented: “They're economic refugees. They pass through at least three safe European countries, where they can apply for asylum. The problem is that the true desperate refugees are tarnished by these people. They don't want to go to Ireland, Norway etc but the UK.”

@Bossbabymk asked: “What happens if they are seeking asylum from Rwanda?” @Dereksm15833987 added: “You could never tell there is local election and Partygate despair.

Emergency announcements while parliament is in recess. Operation Save Big Dog.”

#BRIDGESPROTEST

Extinction Rebellion climate change protesters blocked four of London's busiest bridges – Waterloo, Blackfriars, Lambeth and Westminster – calling for an end to new fossil fuel. @Chamaerion said: “Plastic banners. Plastic flags. Wearing plastic clothing, glasses and shoes. You know, that plastic that is made out of oil, doesn’t degrade, ends up in the oceans, intoxicates the sea life and has a massive contribution to climate change? Yes, that very same one.”

@Thelastuprisin1 responded: “They’re only trying to save your kids.” @sanders1_doug posted: “Find another way to get your message over and it might have greater results.” @weightofech commented: “Driving a fossil fuelburning vehicle is no longer legitimate.” @joffcomedystuff wondered: “Why don’t they just inconvenience MPS into doing something, rather than disrupting the public’s daily life?”

@Vronp7 added: “London has tubes, railways and buses. Use them.”
