Sir Cliff Richard will sing from an open-topped bus touring the streets of London as part of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations.

@Markoconnell moaned: “Cliff Richard singing on an open-top bus for the Queen's Jubilee is everything that is suffocatingly wrong with this country – obsessed with nostalgia for a time and a Saturday matinee Britain that didn't exist.”

@ianradioguy tweeted: “I agree, but isn't it nostalgic to celebrate a Diamond Jubilee in the first place?”

@iannic replied: “Disagree – the Jubilee is about what is important for the whole nation and, whether you like it or not, Cliff Richard has been a huge part of the UK entertainment scene during the Queen's reign, from the Fifties onwards. Its about celebrating 70 years.”

@matthewbadass2 said: “Look on the bright side. If he's warbling on a double-decker he can't be 'entertaining' the audience at Wimbledon!”

@CRAIGPVFC77 said: “It'll be a cheese fest with all the usual suspects rolled out. Probably include Gary Barlow, Robbie Williams, Elton and Madness and involve 'something for everyone', which never works. Money on a virtual Gary Barlow Vera Lynn duet.”

@Siralanhe asked: “What’s wrong with nostalgia and history?”

@adastraalsq wailed: “Please tell me this isn't true. It could scarcely be more distasteful. Taking an opentop bus around austerityhit London and singing about how lovely it all is while people are catching a pandemic virus.”

@eddiebridgette replied: “Austerity-hit London? What's happening, the blocking of Russian money laundering hitting home?”

@mj_margaret tweeted: “50s and 60s was a brilliant time and many of us would go back in a heartbeat if we had a time machine, better than the miserable existence we have now.”

@Fast803 wrote: “Cliff Richard had number 1 singles in 5 decades. Regardless of whether or not you or I like him, he was significant to a significant part of the population during the Queen's reign. Don't worry, there will be loads of stuff for young people too.”

@blokestreet wrote: “It sounds cheesy and naff, but harmless.”

@David_brunt wrote: “To be fair, he'll probably be about the only act on the bill she actually knows.”
